- workshops to prepare groups for running community cooking sessions including food arts & crafts for children;
- training including food hygiene and allergy awareness;
- get-togethers for community food providers to learn from each other, share recipes, ideas and to support to each other;
- local network meetings and workshops for groups to share ideas, resources, discuss partnerships and joined up working;
- funding and support with funding applications.
Family Holiday Activities & Community Food Festivals
With this support, a large number of community groups and churches across the borough have organised holiday activities and meals for children and families during the school holidays as well as community. Such activities include:
- arts & crafts
- food growing
- forest school
- cooking
- dance
- swimming at the local leisure centre
- trips to the theatre and the seaside
2019 Summer Holiday Activity Fund
In 2018 the UK Department for Education (DfE) provided pilot funding for groups to organise Summer holiday activities including a lunchtime meal for children and their families. The Welcome Network was a recipient of this funding and distributed it amongst some of its partner community groups in West Cheshire to organise holiday activities.
The Welcome Network then joined up with Edsential CIC, Cheshire West Voluntary Action and Cheshire West and Chester Council to create a partnership called the Holiday Activity Fund to receive a larger amount of funding from the DfE for the Summer of 2019. This meant that even more groups could access funding to provide more days of food and activity for children, young people and their families across the borough. An emphasis was placed on these activities providing nutrition education and promoting healthy living.
As can be seen from the video below it was amazing to see all the partnerships in action.
